Day 5

States covered: 2 (OH, IN)

Another great day of driving! Although it was overcast throughout the day, there was no precipitation, so the driving was smooth and fast. :-) Unfortunately, because our stop for the day was so interesting, we did not drive as many miles as we thought we would.

We finished up our laundry this morning at Aunt Anne's in Columbus and got out on the road by about 11:30AM. Before we got back on the interstate, we got the car washed again (the New Jersey wash had not removed all of the Massachusetts salt!). After a nice wash at a BP, we were on our way again.

An hour from Columbus, we stopped at the United States Air Force Museum near Dayton, OH. We spent most of the afternoon there (ate lunch at the cafe), looking at many, many planes in two different hangars. We saw the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki, an SR-71 Blackbird, a B-52 bomber, a U-2 spy plane, and many other eye-catching flying machines (all caught on film!). There was one hangar that we didn't even make it to since we didn't have enough time. Stephanie took lots of photos of planes and plane paraphanelia.

We left the Air Force Museum and got on our way west again by about 4:45PM. Stephanie's oft-repeated comment for the day: "Wow, it's really flat here!" We hit Indianapolis, IN (neat building there with a blue stripe!) then stopped in Terre Haute, IN for the evening. [Dad: The road we took off the highway in Terre Haute went all the way to Evansville! :-) ] As we pulled off the highway, there were a few snow flurries. We got gas, dined at Red Lobster, and by the time we checked into a nice Holiday Inn, the snow flurries had disappeared.

Bad Stephanie forgot the camera in the car tonight, so Todd was nice and went back down to fetch it so that we could download our photos for the day. :-) And the best news is that the car stayed clean throughout our drive today!

We found out today that all of our stuff in the moving truck will be arriving in California before we do! Oh well. Hopefully Steph's mom and dad will not mind directing the movers about where to place all of our boxes.

Tomorrow we'll drive to St. Louis, see the Arch (hopefully go up in it), and continue on our way west.
